Greetings ~
Since it's opening back in 1967, I've shopped at Chapel Hill Mall on the north side of Akron, Ohio. We had other malls that were larger, but Chapel Hill was the closest to me and had everything I craved.
There were large Christmas events every year, sales for all the holidays, a Merry-Go-Round, restaurants, record and book shops and all sorts of activities going on. They hosted car shows as well. Where else could you get up close to and see one of Elvis Presley's limousines? Well, I guess, lots of places. But I saw one at Chapel Hill Mall in 1979.
I bought a lot of stuff at the mall. And over the years it was a nice place to go in the winter. You were indoors the whole time so there was no trudging through the snow from store to store. But, like so many other malls, over the years it began to decline. Other places in the area took a lot of Chapel Hill's business. Online shopping was catching on and stores at the mall began to close down. At this writing, in 2023, I have not been at Chapel Hill in over 20-years. So I don't know what's happening there now. I do know that most of the stores are gone and there's plans to turn it into business offices. But, unlike the fate of Rolling Acres Mall, Chapel Hill is still with us. And it appears, at least for now, that it will survive. We still have Summit Mall in Fairlawn at the present time. But time will tell on that one too.
